Tributes pour in for man murdered in Skegness

The murder trial begins this week

Tributes have flooded in for a man murdered in Skegness, as another male prepares to stand trial over his death this week.

Police were called to Grosvenor Road just after 11pm on Tuesday, September 22 where local 45-year-old Paul Barnett suffered serious injuries that proved to be fatal.

Paul Bodell, 37, of Grosvenor Road in Skegness, was charged with murder before appearing at Lincoln Magistrates Court via video link on Friday, September 25.

He was remanded into custody and a trial will begin at Lincoln Crown Court during the afternoon of Monday, September 28.

Police believe this was an isolated incident in which both the suspect and victim were known to one another.

Hundreds of people have paid tribute to the victim, including Michael Goldsbrough who said: “RIP Paul Barnett you legend. Thanks for the good times mate, fly high, you will be missed by all of us mate.”

Derek Michael Kirkham said: “RIP Paul. Sad to hear this news. He was a great lad, we used to go out drinking when I was single.”

Yvonne Clements said: “Rest in peace Pex, be free with your mum, thanks for the memories mate.”

Wayne Whenman said: “Living local I saw him many times, was looking at the new cars in Taylor’s when he was walking his dog. Amazed at his knowledge on cars and their performance, he gave me a secure on all the new cars and if he was rich what one he would be. RIP.”

Zoe Peak said: “Sleep tight Pex, you’ll be missed by many. Still can’t believe what’s happened.”
