Two coronavirus cases at Grantham school

Two cases of coronavirus have been confirmed at a school in Grantham, resulting in the closure of two year groups’ whole class bubbles.

Ancaster Church of England Primary School on Mercia Drive in Grantham posted a copy of letters sent to parents and carers by headteacher Sam Eden on its website, which confirmed a positive case in each of the Year 1 and Year 4 bubbles.

The period of self-isolation will run up to September 21, with children and staff being eligible to return to school the following day.

The school is open for all unaffected year groups as normal and online learning will also be available.

The letter states: “We’ve been made aware that we have a positive case of COVID-19 within our school.

“This has resulted in the closure of Year 1 and Year 4 whole class bubbles and the affected year groups have been contacted today personally to ensure a consistency in our message.

“For all other year groups, there is no need to keep child away from school on the grounds of this information and without the presentation of a primary COVID-19 symptom, you also do not need to arrange for your child to be tested.”

Some parents were concerned that their child may have come into contact with another person from another bubble.

The letter continued: “The health protection team have been very clear that we are only dealing with ‘close contacts’ and not ‘contacts of contacts’ as this could be potentially never ending in determining the amount of people who have been in contact with one another.”

Separate letters were also sent specifically to parents and carers of Year 1 and Year 4.

Lincolnshire Reporter contacted the school to speak to the headmaster, but was told that Mr Eden will not be commenting.
