Work starts on Lincolnshire region’s first pet crematorium

It should be ready by the year’s end

By Local Democracy Reporter

A pet crematorium is being built in Grimsby, and it will become the first of its kind in the region.

The facility, which will be part of an extension of the existing crematorium on Weelsby Avenue, offers owners a local place to say a final goodbye to their pets.

Works on North East Lincolnshire’s first pet crematorium are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Local funeral directors have been informed, with funeral services now arranged to take place in the mornings until mid-October to minimise disruption.

Cllr Stewart Swinburn, portfolio holder for environment and transport at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “I’m really pleased that works have started on this facility.

“For many pet owners, their animals are their best friends, and it’s important that we recognise this and have somewhere local that pet owners can go to say farewell after their pets have passed away.

“I want to take this opportunity to thank local residents, funeral directors and visitors to the site for their patience whilst these works are underway.”
