Popular Boston chippy gets green light for flats conversion

Upstairs dining area will become housing

Boston Borough Council has given the nod to plans for transforming the upper floor of Tates Restaurant, a much-loved local fish and chip shop, into residential flats.

This move comes as a response to the business slowdown experienced during the lockdown. The application said: “In recent years, the popularity of the restaurant has declined due to competition since the arrival of modern cafe and bakery chains such as Costa, Greggs, etc. The arrival of coffee shop and bakery franchises has resulted in a general decline in the requirement for dining space.”
