A mum, and her little boy, who died in a collision on the A180, Immingham on Friday 10 March, have been named by their families.

Whilst formal identification is yet to take place, they have been named as Nicola Courtney, aged 34 and Lucas Page, aged 3, from Scunthorpe.

Their families continue to be supported by specialist trained officers and partnering agencies and have asked for their privacy to be respected at this incredibly difficult time.

At around 9.06pm on Friday 10 March a white articulated lorry was travelling westbound along the A180, Immingham between Stallingborough and Brocklesby when it collided with stationary blue Ford Focus which is thought to have broken down in a live lane.

The full circumstances of the collision will be established during this complex investigation, and we would ask for people not to speculate about the circumstances of the crash.

We are continuing to appeal for any witnesses who have not yet spoken to us to get in touch. If you saw either the collision itself, the vehicles prior to the collision or if you have any dash-cam footage showing the vehicles prior to the collision, please call our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 557 of 10 March.

A voluntary referral has been made to the Independent Office of Police Complaints (IOPC) in relation to the collision.

A Humberside police officer who was immediately dismissed last year following a misconduct hearing has entered a guilty plea at Grimsby Crown Court today (Friday 10 March) to an offence under Section 26 of the Criminal Justice and Courts Act of corruption or other improper exercise of police powers and privileges.

Criminal and internal investigations were launched into the actions of former PC Simon Miller, 53, after a report was received of inappropriate conduct and behaviour.

Miller, based in Scunthorpe, engaged in a sexual relationship with a vulnerable victim after meeting her whilst on duty at an incident in 2021.

After the internal investigation, an accelerated Misconduct Hearing took place in August last year, in private so not to jeopardise the ongoing criminal investigation.

The Misconduct Panel found he had breached the standards of professional behaviour in relation to Discreditable Conduct and he was immediately dismissed and placed on the College of Policing Barred List.

Miller was then charged with the offence under section 26 for engaging in a sexual relationship with a victim knowing the exercise was improper in June 2021. He appeared at Grimsby Magistrates’ Court last month where he entered no plea and the case was sent to Crown Court where he appeared today.

He will be sentenced on Thursday 20th April.

Head of Professional Standards, Superintendent Andy Maultby said: “Miller has completely abused his position of trust and took advantage of someone when she was in need of support. His discreditable conduct and behaviour didn’t just breach the standards of professionalism, it was utterly condemnable and unforgivable.”

“I want to praise the lady for her courage in speaking out. It has enabled us to ensure he has been criminally prosecuted, removed from our police force and placed on the College of Policing barred list.

“We will not condone or accept any form of abuse of position within Humberside Police and we will always take action and hold those responsible to account.”

Mr Maultby continued: “We are committed in rooting out those who should never have embarked on a police career and who cause the communities we serve to doubt our integrity and professionalism.

“Our communities deserve the highest quality service and should feel they can have confidence in policing, and we will do all we can to deliver this.”
