Sports car wood supplier to build 14 homes and shop

The development will help secure the business’ future

A 14-home Alford village development with a community shop will help sustain a local timber company which supplies a famous sports car manufacturer.

Wazel Wood Floors, a partnership between landowners the Roughton family, local contractors and craftsmen, has been given permission by East Lindsey District Council officers to redevelop its site on Hanby Lane.

The proposals will see a number of existing buildings demolished and replaced with the homes and shop.

The plans include a community shop.

A building, currently used as grain storage, to the south of the site will be used for storage of timber both sawn and un-sawn.

Documents to East Lindsey District Council said: “The delivery of these family orientated homes will bring about a redevelopment of this central part of the village providing gentle sustainable growth of the village and allowing the landowner to reinvest in the business to secure its longevity and its employee’s livelihoods.”

Plans for the site have been in the pipeline since 2011 and the applicant said “considerable” work has gone into them.

How the site will be laid out.

The company supplies the Morgan Motor Company with the ash, with which it makes its famous British sports cars’ framework.

It said it hopes local people will have an input into the final design – but says it hopes to reflect Willoughby’s most famous son – John Smith, famous for being one of the leaders of the colony of Virginia.

They say the shop will provide security for the village and will be valuable in assisting its “sustainability and quality of life for the residents in the long term”.
