Farmers’ Market prepares for 10th birthday

Giant cake: The 10th anniversary of Lincoln Farmers Market will celebrate with three-feet by two-feet cake this weekend.

Stallholders and event organisers are preparing for the 10th anniversary of Lincoln Farmers Market this weekend.

The Market, held in Castle Square every month, will be celebrating 10 years of trade on Saturday, April 16 with a giant cake.

Thirty businesses are expected to come to the market, all offering fresh local produce. The market attracts people from all over the county.

The cake, which will have its own stall, will be made by Lynne Grebenik of Old Elephant Fudge, a regular stallholder.

She said: “I am making a cake which will hopefully be about three-feet by two-feet in size, and planning to decorate it to look like the Castle Hill area, with mini market stalls on the top.”

Thirty businesses are expected to come to the market, all offering fresh local produce.

The uphill market is maintained by Lincoln BIG and Susan Smith of ostrich burger stall OsLinc, and was created after a demand for fresh, traceable foods.

Stalls have food such meats, vegetables, jams, pickles, cheeses, fudge, bread and even beer on offer.

Smith said: “We started with just a handful of stalls and now we have nearly 30 regular traders.

“It really is magical seeing everyone arriving and setting-up each month.”

The event begins at 9am and finishes at 4pm.
