Employer Declaration Limited
Industry Digital Marketing, Marketing, Media
Contract Full Time
Job Type Permanent
Salary £17,000 - £18,500
Established in 2001 by a technical journalist, Declaration Limited is redefining B2B marketing in advanced engineering sectors.
Everything we do is underpinned by the power of the written word and we are proud to be working with some of the leading engineering companies in their respective fields. Our clients’ customers include the likes of Apple, Aston Martin, Boeing, NASA, the Ministry of Defence and the Royal Air Force.
We are trusted to produce and disseminate authoritative, informative and compelling material, and our services include trade press communications and copywriting for digital, print and social media.
We have an enviable reputation and our services are much sought after. Indeed, all our current clients came to us through recommendations. However, we are not resting on our laurels. We have ambitious growth plans and seek a motivated individual to help us with our current writing commitments and play a key role in the development of our business. Moreover, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to progress within the company and work towards shares in the business.
This is therefore an amazing opportunity for an enthusiastic and determined individual who is prepared to commit 100% to a future within our organisation.
About the role
Your formal job title will be ‘Digital Content Author’ though your role will have much in common with that of a technical reporter/journalist on a magazine, such is the way Declaration operates.
You will be writing articles, case studies, press releases and blogs, as well as producing copy for websites, newsletters, brochures and other digital and print material.
You will get to write about the very latest (as well as yet-to-launch) technologies that are shaping the world in which we live. You will be required to interview experts within our clients’ organisations, to understand the features and benefits of the products they are developing, and then craft compelling, well-written copy. You will occasionally be required to interview our clients’ customers and/or third parties too.
Importantly, you will support Declaration’s directors/owners in the rebranding of the company and help us with the introduction of new services. For instance, in addition to traditional media communications, we wish to promote our clients (and ourselves) through social media channels. You will also be required to perform a variety of support/admin tasks but, as our company grows, you will have the opportunity to be managing others.
The Essentials: You must be a keen, dedicated and meticulous writer whose first language is English, and you must be familiar with writing for social media outlets and understand where and how to post material.
Attention to detail is essential for this position, as is adherence to strict deadlines. You must have an inquisitive nature, a passion for producing high quality copy and for writing with the reader in mind. Also, you must be a good communicator, with a clear telephone manner and be adept at using MS Word.
You must live locally, or be willing to commute, and be prepared to make a 100% commitment, as we are seeking an individual who will be in this for the long-run. This is not a ‘stepping-stone position’, which is why we are prepared to let the successful candidate work towards shares in our business.
Importantly, in working with our clients (and our clients’ customers) you will be representing the Declaration brand and our core business values of Trust, Professionalism, Creativity, Responsiveness and Loyalty.
The Desirables: A genuine interest in technology is strongly recommended for this role as is a degree-level qualification – in English, Journalism, Marketing or Communications & Public Relations – obtained in the last three years.
Some familiarity of website editing (for example, updating existing pages and creating new ones using Word Press) would be useful, as would the ability to adjust and manipulate images and graphics.
Previous work experience – during which you were copywriting to tight deadlines – would be highly beneficial, as would a familiarity with MS Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
It is strongly desirable that you have a full UK driving license (held for at least two years) and have your own transportation. You may also require a current passport for access to some of our clients’ more secure sites and potentially for travel outside of the UK.
- Location: We are based in the Enterprise wing of Sparkhouse on the University of Lincoln campus.
- Hours: 37.5 per week (nominal) worked as 08:30 to 17:00 (with an hour’s lunch break), Monday to Friday.
- Salary range*: £17,000 to £18,500 per annum plus pension contributions.
- Holiday entitlement: 20 days plus bank holidays.
* The salary offered will be dependent on qualifications, experiences and suitability.
Training will mainly be on-the-job though there is scope to obtain further professional qualifications

- (Written specifically for your application) A press release or a news item about – or review of – any piece of IT you purchased recently. We would like to see between 300 and 600 words and the item described could be a phone, headset, notepad, SatNav, TV, coffee machine – anything really that’s mains- or battery-powered, performs a function and for which there are competitive solutions available.
The closing date for applications is 31st October 2018
This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to join a unique and highly respected company with considerable growth potential.
