A new Aldi store will open on Wragby Road, just meters away from supermarket giant Tesco. The City of Lincoln Council approved on August 25 Aldi’s application to build the new store, which will also include a car park.
The discount supermarket chain is expected to create around 30 new jobs in the city with the opening of the new store in Wragby Road. The store will also have 81 parking spots at the back, which visitors will able able to use when shopping nearby.
The site is currently occupied in part by a former surface car park (pictured), which will be demolished and the new foodstore built 65 metres behind Wragby Road, with the car park at the front, according to planning inspectors’ report (PDF).
“The Planning Committee welcomed the development and the investment by Aldi on this vacant and underused part of the district centre” said Paul Seddon, Development Control Manager at the City of Lincoln Council.
“The development will provide a new food store for the local communities in this part of the city and a car park that can be used for combined visits to other local businesses.
“The scheme met our planning aims and is a positive addition to the area. We are very pleased to have worked with Aldi to bring this investment to the city and we will continue our support as needed as they build the development,” Seddon added.
Details on when work at the new store will start are yet to be disclosed.
