Star guests to host local sport ceremony

Sports awards: Two special guests will be present at the Lincolnshire Sports Awards 2010.

A star athlete and famous broadcaster will be attending the Lincolnshire Sports Awards 2010 on November 11.

Taking place at the Lincolnshire Showground, the ceremony confirmed BBC’s John Inverdale will be presenting and gold medalist Callum Johnson.

Nowadays you will recognise Inverdale from his sports coverage, such as Wimbledon, Grandstand and recently the Ryder Cup.

However, he started off in local journalism in Lincoln, for the Lincolnshire Echo and BBC Lincolnshire.

He said: “I’m delighted to be presenting awards to the sportspeople of a county to which I have such strong allegiance.

“Some of my fondest sporting memories are of my six years in Lincolnshire so I’m looking forward to the evening immensely.”

Inverdale will talk to boxer Johnson, who is from Boston, about his experience at the Commonwealth Games and his boxing future.

Events Officer at Lincolnshire Sports Partnership Marc Rhodes said: “It is fantastic to have someone as high-profile as John hosting our awards evening, and welcoming Callum as our VIP Guest.

“I think it will give the evening that extra special touch as we celebrate the achievements and dedication of Lincolnshire’s fantastic sportspeople.”

Nineteen Lincolnites have been shortlisted for the Lincolnshire Sports Awards 2010.

The annual Lincolnshire Sports Awards are an event for praising the efforts of the county’s sportsmen and women. Tickets to the event are still available.
