Six-month-old art gallery up for sale

Sad sale: A contemporary art gallery in Lincoln is up for sale six months after it was opened.

A contemporary art gallery in Lincoln that has only been open for six months is up for sale again.

Lincoln Art Works on West Parade, which sells quirky art by various artists, has been put up for sale at the low price of £20,000.

The sale is because the resident artist, John Pooley, has to look after his mother, who is suffering from ill health.

The new owner will get all the same signage and fittings already in the gallery, plus a year’s worth of exhibitors set up.

Talking to Love Lincoln, Pooley, who used to have a workshop in The Terrace, said:

“The gallery needs more time and dedication than I can give it at the minute. It’s doing really well but it could be great.

“There’s so much potential here, there’s an upstairs storage and studio space that someone could do something with and it could easily be turned into an art café by making use of the terrace off the back.

“I’d rather someone buy it and make something out of it that gives me and other local artists somewhere to exhibit their work than just shut up shop.

“I’ve already had some interest from people in the art community.”
