City gets its jive on with Jazz Week

Jazz Pack: Lincoln’s annual Jazz week will be back with an even better line up.

Saxophone elite Courtney Pine (pictured) will be headlining Jazz Week at Lincoln Performing Arts Centre (LPAC), from May 16 to 21.

The top sax player, who just released his new album Europa, will be performing on May 20, at the end of his current tour.

LPAC artistic director Craig Morrow said: “It is good that Courtney is coming to Lincoln.

“He is internationally-renowned and he has done loads of roadshows in the past.

“His latest tour ties in with the release of his Europa album, which has been given five-star reviews in the musical press.

“Courtney, who started making a name for himself in the 1980s, has an eclectic style, which has been influenced by everything from Gregorian Chant to Spanish and Celtic influences, so he has a wide appeal.”

As well as Pine performing during the May 16 to 21 Jazz Week, there are other free jazz events happening across the city.

Bands such as Midnight Masquerade Double Take, Magna Carta, The Thom Whitworth Jazz Duet, The Max Miechowski Quartet, The Freeloaders, Hot Club of Lincoln and Jivefusion will play.

Jazz Week is funded by support from the European Regional Development Fund.
