Lincoln says no to AV

Saying No: Lincoln has spoken, with a majority voting No to the Alternative Vote proposal.

The vote count for the referendum on alternative voting (AV) in Lincoln is in.

With a turnout of 36.8%, 6,951 people voted Yes, while 16,099 voted No.

Lincoln’s response to the referendum will now be tallied towards the national count.

This was only the second national referendum Britain has ever seen. The first, in 1975, asked if Britain should stay in the European Economic Community (EEC).

National results on the referendum are expected throughout the weekend.

Preliminary national results indicate 70% voted no in the referendum.
