Name of new mental health unit chosen

New name: A new NHS mental health building has been given a name by a member of the public.

The public have decided to call a new Lincoln rehabilitation unit on Long Leys Road Discovery House.

The name for the £15 million facility was picked from a 10-strong shortlist.

The final name was chosen by Eileen Ziemer, chairman of the Lincolnshire Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, and a service user involved with the project.

The new unit, which is being built on the former St George’s hospital site, is the largest single piece of investment into Lincolnshire’s mental health for over 25 years.

The building has also been carefully designed to create a therapeutic environment for people recovering from long-term mental health issues.

Ann Dodd, Clinical Lead, said: “Deciding the name is a crucial part of the new rehabilitation unit’s identity.

“Discovery House really reflects how mental healthcare is focused on working towards independence and recovery.”

Discovery House is due to open February 2012 and will provide in-patient rehabilitation services for men and women.
