Skegness sand brings Lincoln by the Sea

Authentic: To give Lincoln by the Sea a real beach feel, sand from the county’s coast was transported to the city.

Sand from Lincolnshire’s best seaside resort was transported into Lincoln to create an artificial beach at Lincoln City Square.

To help create the Lincoln by the Sea event, sand from Skegness was placed in the square for the entire month of August.

As previously reported, as well as authentic sand, revellers will also be able to relax on deck chairs, while children play on the locally produced pirate ship.

As well as the beach, for one weekend only, sports fans can try their hand at water zorbing.

The annual event is put on by Lincoln BIG, in conjunction with Skegness Partnership and other local businesses.

At night, the beach will be fenced off and 24-hour security in place to prevent vandalism.

Lincoln BIG events and promotions manager Michael Armstrong said: “The Beach proved to be a runaway success last summer, so we’re recreating it – but this time with some great new twists.

“We’re hoping that families will make the most of it and have a great time.

“We’re inviting everyone who visits The Beach to make a real day of it by coming into the city early and also making time to pop into city centre shops and cafes.”
