Special bishops visit Bishop Grosseteste

Handmade bishops: Students and staff at Bishop Grosseteste held a special challenge to celebrate Robert Grosseteste Day.

Bishop Grosseteste University College decided to celebrate Bishop Robert Grosseteste Day with a special creative challenge.

Staff and students were invited to create their own miniature and life-sized bishops, like a village scarecrow competition, and a selection are now on show around campus.

As well as more serious entries, exhibits also included Bishop Geraldine from the Vicar of Dibley by the Library team and Bishop Kev — a mannequin bishop based on Archbishop Rowan Williams by the Student Union.

Principal of BG Professor Muriel Robinson said: “It’s great to see students and staff across the campus entering into the spirit of the competition and clearly having a lot of fun.

“Clearly those of us who made the Principals’ office Bishop Nicholas entry think that it is the best but the others come a very close second!”

After the challenge, a service was held in the University College Chapel, with the theme of “the Bishop’s eye”.

The service reflected both the special Lincoln Cathedral window and Robert Grosseteste’s work regarding principles of light.

You can see the set of Bishops currently on display on the university’s Facebook page.
