A BBC Two series will explore the great railway journey through Lincolnshire from Spalding to Grimsby on Friday night.

Michael Portillo’s Great British Railway Journeys is travelling port to port, from the naval hub of Portsmouth to the historic Grimsby docks.

He sees how Lincolnshire farmers utilised rails to improve their harvests, visits Lincoln Cathedral and looks to the future of rail freight.

In the series, former Conservative politician Portillo takes to the tracks with his copy of Bradshaw’s Victorian railway guidebook, as he travels the length and breadth of the British Isles to see what of Bradshaw’s world remains.

Episode 10 of Great British Railway Journeys, Spalding to Grimsby, will be aired on Friday, January 18 at 6.30pm on BBC Two and BBC HD.
