Lincoln artists expand into selling unique prints

Art for sale: A gallery in Lincoln will start selling a variety of affordable prints by artists, to help people start art collecting.

A pair of Lincoln artists are extending their gallery by giving people the chance to own their work.

Spencer Coleman and Karen Wallis Coleman of Spencer Coleman Fine Art Gallery in Exchequergate, Lincoln, and George Hotel Mews in Stamford used to focus on an eclectic selection of British and continental originals.

Now, they will also sell a range of prints, which will launch at an invitation-only showing at the Lincoln gallery on March 1.

Karen said: “Since opening in Lincoln about fifteen years ago, we have always concentrated on stocking originals, although we have talked about selling prints for some time.

“I am an artist in my own right, and I particularly enjoy doing figurative and floral paintings. Last year I was approached by Artko Ltd and asked if I would like to collaborate on the production of a range of prints.

“We have now produced a total of nine different prints, including works by myself, Spencer – who is a landscape painter (in oils) – and other artists. We are delighted with the quality of these and they have got our gallery prints room off to a great start.”

She added: “Ultimately, it is all about making fine art affordable for everybody. Whereas an original tends to cost from £500 upwards, artlovers can buy prints for as little as £35.”

Lincoln BIG events and promotions manager Michael Armstrong said: “The Spencer Coleman Fine Art Gallery in Exchequergate is a great example of one of the city’s niche businesses – which help to make Lincoln such a popular shopping destination. We welcome news of Karen and Spencer’s diversification move and hope it is a great success for them.”

The event on March 1, named Fun, Fizz & Fine Art, runs from 6.30pm and 9.30pm. To attend, call the gallery on 01522 521794.
