Lincoln to Nottingham trains return to normal schedule

Back to normal… almost: Trains between Nottingham and Lincoln are back on during most daytime hours.

Train services between Lincoln and Nottingham resumed on August 8 after works to Nottingham Trains Station almost reached completion.

Trains will be mostly back to normal, however they will only run the normal schedule between 8am and 10pm.

Any trains that usually run outside of these times will be replaced by buses at Newark until August 25.

As previously reported, trains between Lincoln and Nottingham were disrupted from July 20 due to re-signalling, part of a major refurbishment at the Nottingham station.

Trains to and from the cities were replaced by Stagecoach buses at Newark.

At the weekend though, engineers finished the major work on the lines, and will now move on to fitting new signals, train warning systems and axle counters, which tell signallers where trains are.

This work will be ongoing alongside testing of the new signals, until the completion date of August 25.

David Horne, Managing Director for East Midlands Trains, said: “We are pleased to be able to start running direct train services to Skegness and Lincoln for our passengers again.

“We’re now over three weeks into this major improvement scheme and it’s clear the comprehensive planning has paid off.”
