Another £1.1 million pledged for North Kesteven Sports Centre

More improvements: The swimming pool at North Kesteven Sports Centre will also be refurbed as more funding is allocated to the project.

A further £1.1 millon has been pledged for the refurbishment of North Kesteven Sports Centre in North Hykeham, as well as the original £2.5 million.

After a consultation, members of North Kesteven District Council Full Committee agreed to use £1.1m of its New Homes Bonus to improve plans for the centre’s refurbishment.

This brings the total being made available by the district council for the improvement plan to £3.6 million.

The extra funding means work will now be carried out on the swimming pool.

The flume will be replaced and relocated to enable better spectator viewing during Gala activities, the area surrounding the pool will be re-tiled, the pool hall modernised, a Toddler Splash activity area created, the heating system renewed and the building re-roofed.

This decision was made in order to better meet the needs of users and visitors to the centre.

As previously reported, original plans included laying a new 3G all-weather all-purpose football pitch, which is underway now, relocating and enlarging the gym space, providing more studio space for classes, creating a changing village, and moving the cafe downstairs to the reception area to create a community hub with a potential library.

Council Leader, Cllr Mrs Marion Brighton OBE said: “I couldn’t welcome this decision more.

“As a Council we are committed to arts and leisure and believe we should give something back. The extra £1.1m will ensure this happens and provide another facility we can all be proud of for many more years to come.”
