A number of properties also experienced low water pressure or loss of water altogether.

The road was closed to traffic as Anglian Water engineers isolated the leak.

A spokeperson for the company said: “The works to bring water back to the 18 properties that feed off the main will take place until around midnight. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
