A child was among 13 suspected illegal immigrants who were picked up by police after they were spotted jumping out of the back of a truck in Cranwell.

The Home Office confirmed on Wednesday, August 31 that 12 men were arrested (originally reported as 11 by Lincolnshire Police) after they were seen at around 12.30pm on Tuesday, August 30.

The 12 men arrested on suspicion of entering the UK illegally were seven Sudanese men, between 22 and 29-years-old, and five Eritrean men, aged between 24 and 27-years-old.

They are all being taken to immigration centres.

The minor, from Sudan, is in the process of being passed into the care of social services.

A Home Office spokesperson said: “Immigration Enforcement was contacted by Lincolnshire Police force yesterday, Tuesday, August 30 at around 2pm, after police officers attended an incident in Cranwell Village, Lincolnshire.

“Where someone is found to have no right to remain in the UK, we will take action to remove them.

“Immigration Enforcement is an operational directorate within the Home Office responsible for enforcing immigration law.”

Residents had reported the group had climbed down from the truck before walking away in separate directions.

The incident was within miles of RAF College Cranwell, which trains RAF personnel.
