A spokesperson for Louth Police said: “[We] visited an elderly widow earlier who has recently been victim of a burglary whilst she was in hospital.

“[It] broke my heart to hear she no longer feels safe, is scared to leave the house and is putting her house on the market to move due to the effect it’s had on her life.

“[It is] heartbreaking to think items stolen included her later husband’s war medal, jewellery he bought her in the 1960s, their marriage certificate and many family photos.

“All irreplaceable, worth nothing to anyone else but meant the whole world to her.”
