A man who pleaded guilty to stealing a charity box from Myers Bakery in Horncastle last month has been jailed for 12 weeks.

Alexander Carne Hewitt, 60, and of no fixed abode, was sentenced at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Monday, June 12.

The charity box contained donations towards leukaemia and lymphoma research.

Hewitt was also described as a persistent offender, having been linked to similar offences across Lincolnshire since 2015.
