A man and woman have been rushed to hospital following a collision on the A46 at the Collingham crossroads near Newark.

As reported earlier, a section of the A46 either side of the Collingham junction was closed to drivers after the crash.

Nottinghamshire Police have said that the collision was initially reported as involving three vehicles, however it is now understood that two cars have required urgent recovery.

A female driver has been taken to Lincoln County Hospital and a male driver, described as elderly, has been rushed to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

No further details about the seriousness of injuries are available at the time of writing.

The road remains closed between Collingham village and Potter Hill.

Drivers are being advised to find alternative routes for the time being while highways teams work to clear debris and oil from the road.
