Residents in Lincoln have been complaining of a strong smell of burning across the city throughout the night and this morning. Residents in Lincoln have been complaining of a strong smell of burning across the city throughout the night and this morning.

Firefighters confirmed that a 20 mentre by 20 metres stack of straw bales was on fire at a disused premises in the Swanpool/Skellingthorpe Road area of Lincoln.

Crews were called to the blaze at around 10.30pm on Thursday, August 3 to find that the stack had been burning for some time.

A spokesperson explained that due to the length of time the fire had been burning, it was left to burn out naturally through the night.

The fire is continuing to burn out this morning. Combined with strong winds, smoke can be smelt across the city.

Crews are monitoring the site near to the railway and are returning regularly.
