Lincolnshire’s fly tipping hotspot revealed in new report

Find out which area in Lincolnshire had the most incidents of fly tipping in 2016-17.

A new report has revealed that East Lindsey is the number one hotspot for fly tipping in Lincolnshire, with more than 1,500 individual incidents in the last year alone.

Research by the Lincolnshire Waste Partnership found that there were 7,404 fly tipping incidents across the county between 2016-17.

Fly tipping is the illegal deposit of waste on any form of land and if found guilty, the person could receive a maximum fine of up to £50,000 and up to five years in jail.

East Lindsey was found to have had the most incidents in Lincolnshire with 1,528.

However, in the same period, the council was only able to prosecute two people for fly tipping.

Councillor Sandra Harrison, portfolio holder for communities at East Lindsey District Council, said: “East Lindsey is one of the largest rural districts in the country covering 700sq miles.

“Sadly there are a number of irresponsible people who believe it is acceptable to fly tip and this costs taxpayers thousands of pounds each year to clear up – money that could be better spent on other frontline services.

“Clearly, we can’t be on every roadside to catch offenders, but where we do have evidence as to who is responsible for a fly tip we will take action.

“We’d also encourage the community to report offenders to us.”

Here is a list of fly tipping incidents across the county:

  • East Lindsey – 1,528
  • Boston – 1,367
  • Lincoln – 1,127
  • North Kesteven – 1,058
  • West Lindsey – 970
  • South Kesteven – 683
  • South Holland – 671
