Injunction taken out to stop travellers camping on land off A17

Firm action has been taken.

An injunction has been granted to stop unauthorised camping on land off the A17 west of Sleaford which has been used by travellers since April.

North Kesteven District Council took the action after two encampments have plagued the area over the last eight months.

North Kesteven District Council officers have found fly-tipping, littering, human waste and caravans left on the stretch of land off High Dike between Temple Heath and Byard’s Leap.

The council has taken the action after the two encampments have plagued the area over the last eight months.

Enforcement was previously taken on the site before by the council alongside Lincolnshire County Council.

Councillor Peter Burley, board member with a special interest in enforcement at North Kesteven District Council, said: “By taking out an injunction on the land we are further protecting our green space in the district.

“We have acted quickly to prevent any travellers returning to the site, and hope this sends a clear message to anyone who was thinking of using unauthorised camping sites in the area.”
