Helpringham fire destroys 30 acres of barley

The cause has been determined

Fire crews in the county rushed to the scene of a huge blaze which destroyed around 30 acres of spring barley on Tuesday.

Crews from Billingborough, Sleaford, Billinghay, Bourne and Spalding attended the incident during the afternoon of Tuesday, August 7, which involved eight acres of standing crop on South Drove in Helpringham.

Beaters, hose reels and water bowser were used to extinguish the fire, which was caused by sparks from combine igniting crop.

There were no injuries.

This isn’t the first large field fire month as last week an overheating combine drive belt caused a fire in Brant Broughton and there were also recent incidents in Donington on Bain and Moulton Seas End.
