A report before the council says: “The proposal would improve pedestrian and cycle access between St Peter’s Hill and the new cinema. This would help increase footfall to this part of the town centre and aid its long-term vitality.”
“In conclusion, this proposal would enhance this part of the Grantham Conservation Area and support the long-term vitality of the town centre and in turn, the overall role of Grantham as a sub-regional centre.”
A side view of the bridge planned to be built once part of the building linking SKDC to the Civic Building is demolished.
The works include the part demolition of some of SKDC’s offices to be replaced by a glass bridge from the Civic building to the council offices which will open up a courtyard currently used as a staff entrance.
The council says the bridge will ‘provide a link between the two buildings whilst retaining the open, transparent feeling of the new route’.
The council’s plans will also see the main entrance to the authority’s buildings moved to the courtyard to create a new lobby including a ‘step’ and platform lift’
Planters and benches will also be installed, along with street lighting, planters and concrete structures as well as street and feature lighting.
New cladding is set to be installed on both of the buildings affected.
