Controlled explosion by bomb squad near Lincolnshire

Army bomb disposal experts were on the scene.

Army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion of a suspicious device found in Retford town centre near to the Lincolnshire border.

The device was found in a building, reportedly the Halifax building society, in Retford on the morning of Monday, September 3.

As reported previously, police evacuated buildings in the Market Place.

The area was cordoned off and streets were closed while the incident was dealt with.

A East Bassetlaw Police spokesperson said: “Army bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled explosion of the device which was safety detonated on site at around midday.

“Cordons have now been lifted.

“An investigation is now underway. Anyone with any information is asked to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 150 of September 3.”
