Demolition underway to create new Scunthorpe homes

Work has begun to demolish the former Westcliff Precinct in Scunthorpe to make way for a range of affordable new homes as part of Ongo’s £9 million regeneration project.

It is expected that demolition work, which is being carried out by UDCS, will take several weeks to complete.

The project to completely regenerate the Westcliff area of Scunthorpe is being supported by North Lincolnshire Council and Homes England, with TG Sowerby’s Ltd carrying out building works.

In total, 41 new homes will be built with 12 currently ongoing.

The new homes are part of a larger project which includes The Arc; a large community hub with a cafe, Little Owls nursery, youth zone, enterprise zone and a post office, a large One Stop convenience store, a Coop Pharmacy and three other retail units.

Development Manager Martin Phillips said: “These are shaping up to be really fantastic homes, and will really help to transform the area.

“There is already a great sense of community in Westcliff, so to be able to build on that with more family homes is brilliant. It’s a long term project, but the physical change can now start to be seen on site.

“There will be a range of different homes to suit the needs of a variety of people looking for a home in this area.

“Ongo has a commitment to support local communities, and this is just one of the ways we’re doing this, by building much needed affordable homes and improving community facilities for people living in and around the Westcliff area.”

Leader of North Lincolnshire Council, Councillor Rob Waltham said: “The new affordable homes will provide much needed family accommodation for local people and will massively improve the area.

“Since the opening of The Arc recently, Westcliff has been transformed through a joint regeneration project between the council and Ongo Homes.

“The partnership shows just what can be achieved by working together. The bulldozing of the old Westcliff precinct will see a new identity for Westcliff that residents can be really proud of.”
