New Mablethorpe care home to include cinema and hair salon

It will also have specialised facilities for residents suffering with dementia

A new 68-bed care home is set to be built in Mablethorpe following approval by councillors.

The plans, submitted by BCD Care, will include facilities for residents suffering from dementia and will also include a gardens, a cinema room, coffee shop, crèche and hair salons.

It will be designed in a ’T-shape’ and be two-storeys high. The layout will see a central building with two wings.

Louise Longstaff, from Hodson Architects, the agent for the developers, told councillors: “The applicant has put up a number  of other care homes in the local area which are successfully managed alongside the local community.

“We are familiar with maintaining local links with the community including local medical practices.”

She said the layout had been carefully considered and taken into consideration nearby housing to avoid overlooking and privacy loss.

She added that the number of parking spaces in front of the care home had been increased from 17 to 25 in response to objections from Mablethorpe Town Council.

As part of the approval, a donation of £17,989.40 has been asked for by NHS England which will go to Marsh Medical Practice.

Councillors were concerned over the money going to a private practice, but were told by council officers that the request was reasonable as the GPs serve the area and have other facilities in the surrounding areas.

A report before councillors said the development would ‘provide for a needed specialist care home facility on a site that was historically earmarked for such development as part of a larger (now partly commenced) regeneration project for the town’.

Approving the application Councillor Jim Swanson joked he might declare an interest because ‘it won’t be very long before we need it’.
