Watch Donna Nook seal pup being born

“It was amazing”

A seal pup was born at Donna Nook over the weekend and a visitor captured the amazing moment of the birth on camera.

As previously reported, the first seal pup of the year was born on Monday, October 22, with photographer Luke Webster getting a great picture of a newborn when he visited the site in North Somercotes.

Now another pup has been born! Clare Brown, who witnessed the latest birth at around 1.30pm on Saturday, November 3 with her partner Lynne Brooker, said: “It was amazing, waters broke and about five minutes in labour she gave birth.

“She was checking it was okay, we will never see anything like that again.”

Five pups were born for the Donna Nook warden’s first count of the season on Friday, October 26 and in a weekly update on November 2 this number was at 67 with about 15 pups along the fenceline.

A post on the Donna Nook Warden Facebook page said: “The others are hiding it but it changes every day with new cows and pups arriving.”
