Huge American aircraft arrives at RAF Waddington

What was it doing here?

A huge American aircraft arrived at RAF Waddington on Wednesday, to the delight of dozens of plane spotters. USAF C5 Galaxy is one of the largest aircraft in the world and the biggest in the US fleet.

One military enthusiast said it was transporting a flight simulator, but when The Lincolnite approached RAF Waddington for further information, it declined to comment.

The aircraft is operated by the US Air Force and can carry a fully equipped combat-ready military unit to any point in the world on short notice. It can then provide the supplies required to help sustain the fighting force.

Waddington is also where RAF personnel including Reaper drone crews are based.

Drone crews flying remotely piloted aerial systems from Waddington and Nevada have logged more than 100,000 hours between them. They recently received a new medal to mark their work targeting Islamic State fighters in Syria.
