Lincolnites rank best Sunday roasts in and around the city

Readers of The Lincolnite have ranked their favourite Sunday roasts in and around the city in a fun poll, run over the weekend.

See which pubs, cafes and restaurants made the top 10 list! Would you agree with the order?

Comments, plus ‘likes’ and ‘loves’, were entered onto a Facebook post and the results were collated on the afternoon of Monday, June 24.

Here are the results:

Your Winner – The Five Bells at Bassingham

The country pub located at 17 High Street in Bassingham is run by Adrian and Di Govier with open fires.

The Sunday roast dinner – beef, pork, turkey or lamb is available for £10.95 with roast and mash potatoes, seasonal vegetables, roast parsnip, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire pudding. A mixed roast – beef, pork and turkey – is available for £13.95.

Runner-up – Windmill Farm, Lincoln

Windmill Farm on Runcorn Road, off Whisby Road, in Lincoln is a popular favourite for roast dinners with advanced booking often advised to avoid a potentially long wait for a table.

The Carvery, priced from just £4.99, includes a range of meats to choose from and various seasonal vegetable accompaniments. The Carvery serving times are Monday to Thursday 11.30am-8pm and Friday to Sunday 11.30am-8.30pm.

3rd – Harbour Lights, Burton Waters

Harbour Lights Bar & Kitchen not only serves a popular roast dinner, but customers can also enjoy the views overlooking Burton Waters marina.

On roasting Sundays three courses are available for £21. Alternatively customers can choose just one course for £13 or two courses for £18. The Sunday roasts available are topside of beef served pink, pork loin and check breast. It is served with a range of sides and extras can be purchased for anyone wanting more.

4th – The Royal William IV, Lincoln

The Royal William IV located along Brayford Wharf North has a Sunday menu including The Royal Roasts and Hot Roast Baguettes.

The Royal Roasts are available from 12pm with choices of Lemon & Thyme Chicken (£12.50), British Silverside of Beef (£13.50), Belly of Pork (£12.95), Braised Lamb Shank (£13.95) and Vegetarian Nut Roast (£11.50). All are served with rosemary roasties, mashed potato, herb stuff, cauliflower cheese, Yorkshire pudding, braised red cabbage, seasonal vegetables and gravy.

5th – The Kings Head, Navenby

The Kings Head on 31 High Street in Navenby is a traditional English Fayre Pub/Restaurant. It offers a wide variety of home cooked traditional English dishes.

The Sunday lunch menu includes five roast dinner choices – beef, lamb, pork, turkey, mixed roast – all served with Yorkshire pudding, roast potatoes and fresh vegetables. Prices range from £10.95 for the roast leg of pork with stuffing and crackling to £14.95 for the mixed roast (beef, pork, turkey with all the trimmings).

6th – The Tempest Arms, Coleby

Village pub, The Tempest Arms in Coleby, was another popular choice among our readers.

The main menus can be found here, but there does not appear to be a separate Sunday roast menu available online.


Joint 7th – White Hart, Nettleham and Tower Hotel, Lincoln

The White Hart at 14 High Street was another village pub to make the list for its roast dinner servings.

Roast including vegetarian are available from 12pm-3pm on Sundays, but there is no specific roast dinner menu available online.

Tower Hotel, Lincoln

The Tower is a 3 AA Star Hotel in the Bailgate area of Lincoln’s Cathedral Quarter.

The Sunday Lunch menu is served from 12pm-5pm. One course is priced at £13 with two courses (£17.50) and three courses (£22) also available.

8th – Royal Oak, Aubourn

The Royal Oak in Aubourn is a traditional English pub boasting roaring open fires in the winter and beamed ceilings to create a warm, friendly and welcoming atmosphere.

The pub serves Sunday Lunch every week with prices starting at £10.95 for Roast Beef, homemade Yorkshire Pudding, Roast Parsnip, Market Fresh Vegetables, stuffing and roast and new potatoes. They offer roast chicken and beef every week then alternate between roast lamb, pork, turkey and honey roast ham.

A village pub located on the High Street in Fiskerton specialising in home cooked meals.

The pub caters for a traditional Sunday lunch with main courses including beef, lamb and pork, however, a specific roast dinner menu does not appear to be available online.

A country pub on Doddington Road in Lincoln is another popular favourite for a Sunday roast.

Prices start at £11.50 for the Roast breast of turkey with lemon & thyme stuffing wrapped in bacon. Plenty of other options are available too including a roast trio of beef, turkey and pork belly.

Prince of Wales, Bailgate

The Prince of Wales is set in Lincoln’s historic cathedral quarter and its roast dinner offering saw it sneak into the top 10.

The main menu can be found here, although there doesn’t appear to be a separate Sunday lunch menu.

10th – Stags Head
