Six teens arrested after field fire saw holiday parks evacuated

Around 140 acres were believed to be affected by the fire

Six teenage boys have been arrested in connection with a fire which set alight farmland and crops in Cleethorpes on Monday night.

Humberside Fire and Rescue received multiple calls to a large fire in a barley field and surrounding grass and shrubbery off South Sea Lane in Cleethorpes at around 5.45pm on Monday, August 5.

Around 140 acres were believed to be affected by the fire which was near to the Beachcomber and Thorpe Park holiday resort. Holiday makers at nearby holiday parks were evacuated from their mobile homes while the emergency services worked to bring the fire under control.

Humberside Police arrested six 14-year-old boys from Cleethorpes and Humberston in connection with the fire.

Humberside Fire & Rescue said on Monday evening that a full investigation was already under way, working with police and local farmers, to establish the most likely cause of the fire.

Humberside Fire & Rescue had six engines at the scene, as well as two Tactical Response Vehicles. Mobile homes closest to the area were evacuated by Humberside Police and partner agencies.

Residents were warned via social media to keep all doors and windows shut as large plumes of smoke billowed over neighbouring caravans and houses.

Crews acted swiftly to stop the spread of the fire and by 7.30pm the fire was out and the smoke, which had been seen for miles around, had dissipated.
