Man charged over machete and meat cleaver robberies in Boston

Police are appealing for information

A 31-year-old man has been charged after two armed robberies in Boston involving a machete and a meat cleaver.

Lincolnshire Police were called to the New Inn pub on Penn Street at 5.39pm on Saturday, November 30 to a report of a robbery. A man believed to be in his 30s was carrying a machete and he took money, thought to be around £500, before leaving the premises.

The second incident took place in the early hours of Sunday morning after officers were called to the John Adams Way Service Station at 12.21am.

The offender, who is thought to have been carrying a meat cleaver, left the scene. A 31-year-old man was arrested at an address in Boston on Sunday morning on suspicion of robbery.

Matthew Holland, of Jubilee Avenue in Boston, has since been charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of possessing a knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place.

He is due to appear at Lincoln Magistrates’ Court on Monday, December 2.

Police previously said they were treating the robberies as separate incidents, but are investigating to establish if they are linked.
