Police probe sexual assault on Cleethorpes train

Police are appealing for witnesses

A man inappropriately touched a woman’s thigh on a train to Cleethorpes, prompting British Transport Police to launch an investigation.

A man is reported to have sat next to a woman on a train from Manchester Airport to Cleethorpes when the incident occurred in carriage B at 2pm on Tuesday, January 21.

The victim then said loudly that she would call the police if he touched her again. The suspect then left the train at Sheffield.

The man has since been identified, but British Transport Police are appealing for more information and published a witness appeal on Thursday, February 20.

Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the carriage at the time and may have witnessed the offence. Anyone with information should contact BTP by texting 61016 or by calling 0800 40 50 40, quoting reference number 285 of 21/1/20.
