Louth’s audacious beer drinker and climber

Legend has it that Benjamin Smith, affectionately nicknamed ‘Ten-Pint Smith’ exhibited unparalleled bravado after engaging in a drinking contest at Louth fair over 200 years ago.

Smith initially earned the nickname ‘Six-Pint Smith’ for consuming half a pint of beer with each stroke of the St James’ Church clock at midday.
