Doncaster Sheffield Airport could reopen after £3.1m legal funding boost

Council says it will ‘not stop until we’ve exhausted every option’

South Yorkshire mayor Oliver Coppard has pledged £3.1m to help Doncaster Council launch legal action to force the sale of Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

The Robin Hood airport, often used and sorely missed by Lincolnshire holidaymakers, closed in November 2022 after owners Peel Group said it was financially unviable. Mr Coppard said the funding would help the council build a case for a compulsory purchase order (CPO), which would force Peel to sell the site.
