How an enchanting Lincolnshire village inspired beloved poet Alfred Lord Tennyson

England’s longest ever serving poet laureate

Stepping into the picturesque village of Somersby in the Lincolnshire Wolds, it’s not hard to understand how it inspired Alfred Lord Tennyson.

One of England’s most well-known poets, he spent the first 28 years of his life in the area, which is now in the Lincolnshire Wolds Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. He went on to become the longest serving poet laureate, a position he occupied for 42 years during Queen Victoria’s reign.
