Lincoln lawyer weighs in: The cost of packed prisons

Insights into Lincolnshire’s prison capacity and sentencing challenges

A Lincoln solicitor has described the situation as “a double-edged sword” in response to news that due to overcrowded prisons, some convicted criminals might not serve jail time starting next week.

The aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic combined with a barristers’ strike has led to a surge in the number of inmates. The Ministry of Justice reports an increase of over 6,000 prisoners on remand since before the pandemic.
