Craig David has strongly hinted that some new material will be played at his headline concert in Cleethorpes next week.
The 36-year-old UK garage pioneer will appear at the Meridian Showground, Cleethorpes on Friday, July 14 as part of his summer tour.
Speaking to Lincolnshire Reporter, the music icon said that he was excited about performing in the Lincolnshire seaside town for the first time in his illustrious career.
He said: “This year has been one of the first years where I’ve been taking the shows on the road but not to the most obvious places.
“For me it’s a nice way of hitting parts the country you wouldn’t normally hit.
“I had so much fun being on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury the other week but I also have as much fun doing the intimate gigs in front of 300 people at another part of the festival.”
The Southampton-born singer, whose 2016 album Following My Intuition reach number one in the albums chart, said that a new album is on its way very soon.
“The new album is nearly finished now, we’re making the hard choice of which song is going to drop first.
“There is a very, very good chance that new music will be played in Cleethorpes.
“I remember when I released Rewind I was playing songs way before it got released so there will definitely be new music, and I hope Cleethorpes is ready for me to drop a couple of new tracks.”
When asked what the crowd can expect from his show, he replied: “I always respect the song. I think it is important to sing that song the way that people can remember that song, rather than that song being from back in the day so we’re going to remix it like crazy.
“It’s going to be a real balance from the new stuff that I’ve got, some of the tracks I have had from my career and the throwbacks. I treat it all like a DJ set but with a band.
Craig David played Glastonbury Festival for the second consecutive year last month and would love to headline the Pyramid Stage at Worthy Farm.
“I’d like to headline Glastonbury. I was just grateful to have the opportunity to go back to Glastonbury after doing it last year on the Sonic Stage. To be asked to play the main stage, I was like ‘woah, this is crazy’.
“I’ve played to a lot of people before, but to see that many people come out at that time of the day I was really overwhelmed.”
Also performing on the same night are Professor Green and Sigma.
