Local busker Phil Gray has written an original song honouring Lincoln City’s recent FA Cup success.

Mr Gray can often be seen in Lincoln city centre with his guitar singing a mixture of original songs and covers, but his most recent piece has caused quite the stir amongst the club’s supporters.

A video of him performing the song posted to both of his Facebook pages has amassed a total over 14,000 views in just two days.

In the song, Mr Gray says: “In the FA Cup, we’ll cause a shock, we’re going to reach the very top”.

“We are the Lincoln City Imps, and we have caught a little glimpse of the glory days, and someone says it’s a miracle”.

Mr Gray said: “I hope my song will help the team realise the immense pride that the city feels in what they have already achieved, but more than this, the faith that many of us share as they continue to do their best as they have done so far”.

He continued: “Full credit to both managers and players, they have shown through their skill, hearts and dedication that as a non-league side they may be considered little Imps, but they are worthy, giant killers.”

One Facebook user commented on the video saying: “Get this on iTunes”.

Another said: “I’m going round the house singing it!”

A tattooist in Lincoln has seen a recent boom in the number of people requesting Lincoln City themed tattoos following the club’s historical FA Cup success.

Jays Inks Tattoo Studio, on Garmston Street, has reported a spike in the number of clients going in and requesting tattoos to show their support of the Imps.

Jason Bird, who owns the shop, said: “Since last Saturday when they won to get into the quarter finals there has been a massive influx of people coming in for tattoos.

“The day that they actually won I was tattooing a supporter and he kind of gave me an idea by saying that with all the fans now there will be a lot of people wanting Lincoln City tattoos.”

With that, Jason and his artists set about coming up with a few Imp-themed designs and putting them online to see how they would be received on social media.

Within days, they received a surge of people booking in for the following week to get the inkings.

He said: “The craziest design so far is one of the artists decided to combine the Lincolnshire sausage with one of the football badges and create a custom design that says ‘Lincolnshire’s finest’ and then an image of a Lincolnshire sausage. That seems to be the most popular one out of all of them at the minute.”

On Saturday, March 11 Lincoln City will play Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium in the sixth round of the FA Cup. There is always the possibility that they will get knocked out, but Jason maintains that supporters won’t regret their inkings if that does happen.

He said: “The tattoos will still mean a lot to a lot of people in Lincoln. They’ve made history and this is a time they’ll want to remember for the rest of their lives, so the tattoos will always be important to them.”
