Purse alarm gets startled thief running

Amazing alarm: Police are encouraging women to pick up a purse alarm after a success story on Lincoln High Street.

Police are now promoting the use of purse alarms after a city centre success story.

Officers in the city were called to Monsoon on the High Street around 10am on August 10, after a woman attempted to steal a purse from another woman’s handbag.

The victim attached to her handbag a purse-dipping alarm, which went off when the attempted theft was made. The startled offender ran out of the shop.

“We have been giving these alarms out to women in the city centre to stop this kind of crime happening so it’s great to actually see them working,” said PCSO Clare Hart.

“We do have a very limited supply of them left, so if you see us in town, then do please come and have a chat with us about it.

“Aside from the alarms, it is a good idea for women to make sure their handbags are fastened at all time and if possible, to wear them over their front, rather than slung over their shoulder at the back.”

Officers are also asking for information regarding the incident. Anyone with information about the offence should call Lincolnshire Police on 0300 111 0300.
