Video: How Lincolnshire Air Ambulance see in the dark

Night vision: Ever wondered how Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulance find you at night? Here’s how.

Ever wondered how Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire Air Ambulances find you in the dark?

Specialist Aviation Services (SAS) use futuristic Night Vision Goggles (NVG) as part of their nightly routine and have released a video showing just how the technology works.

The video, produced by Britol-based company Beeston Media, features Group Chief Pilot for SAS, David Burgess, as he explains the technology.

“We do quite a lot of rigorous flight planning and get any data that we can before flying”, he says. “We have to be very careful where we’re going to land.

“One problem with the goggles is that it’s a bit like looking at the world through a set of toilet tubes, the view is restricted.”
