Lincoln pre-school says goodbye to longest serving staff

37 years between them: Swallows Nest Pre-school is saying goodbye to its two longest serving members of staff.

A Lincoln Christian Pre-school is saying goodbye to two members of staff who have worked there for a total of 37 years between them.

Swallows Nest pre-school operates from St Georges Church Community Hall on Eastbrook Road in Lincoln, and takes children from two and a half up to school age.

Supervisor Alison Wootten and Early Years Practitioner Ruth Hughes were given a celebratory send-off when they retired.

Staff and committee members thanked the two committed employees for their hard work by hosting a tea party at St Katherine’s Priory Cafe in Lincoln.

Alison has been the supervisor for many years, but has worked at Swallows Nest Pre-school since it started 21 years ago.

She said: “I have really enjoyed my 21 years at Swallows Nest Pre-school. It is not everyone who could say that they looked forward to going to work.

“It has been wonderful to have been part of the growing up of hundreds of children. Every child has been different and every day has been different. Sometimes challenging, sometimes amusing but always a pleasure.

“The ‘send-off’ was so lovely. Thank you everyone for making my retirement such a memorable occasion. You will be in my thoughts for a long time to come.”

Ruth has worked at the pre-school since her youngest child attended 16 years ago.

Ruth said: “It has been a privilege to be able to work with so many fantastic children over the last 16 years & to see how their personalities develop. I still bump into some of them & it is lovely to find out what they are up to now.”
