Lincolnshire’s Lancaster Bomber Thumper III has flown for the first time since being grounded following an engine fire in 2015.

The RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) performed at the Woodhall Spa 1940s Weekend on Sunday, July 17.

The Lancaster Bomber is one of only two remaining bombers which are still able to fly.

As previously reported, the BBMF aircraft was forced into an emergency landing at RAF Coningsby on May 7, 2015 after a fire broke out in the engine mid-flight.

The bomber was examined by engineers to determine the extent of the damage and it was decided that the aircraft would miss most of the 2015 display season so repair work could be carried out.

Major maintenance work will take place to the Lancaster following the 2016 display season.
