Boultham Park fair promotes £3.7 million regeneration project

Visitors to Boultham Park in Lincoln this weekend were treated to a fun programme of entertainment, as well as the opportunity to learn more about the pending £3.7 million park regeneration project.

More than 100 stalls and activities were on offer for the 23rd annual event on Saturday, July 12.

The crowds enjoyed brass band music, local dance group performances, kung fu demonstrations, a fly-past by a spitfire from RAF Coningsby, donkey rides and an appearance by Celadus the Gladiator.

Visitors toured the 50-acre green space and were given the opportunity to give their views on Linkage Community Trust’s latest regeneration project plans.

To open the event the Mayor of Lincoln, Councillor Brent Charlesworth, paid tribute to the volunteer organisers and hailed the prospect of the improvements being planned by learning disability charity, Linkage, and City of Lincoln Council.

The restoration, grant-aided by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund Parks for People project, will see the introduction of an education centre and café/shop into the park, a horticulture centre plus improvements to key features in a five-year scheme.

Chelsey Barnes, from the Boultham Park Project team, said: “It’s been superb today. We have had so much interest and lots of people completed questionnaires.”

One of the organisers, Eileen Sherriff, who has been involved from the beginning, said: “It’s so good to see people enjoying themselves. We always seem to attract good weather for the Boultham Summer Fair and it’s probably as big as it has ever been. A lot of the stallholders have become familiar faces and they come every year.”
